Thermofoil Details

Thermofoil is a heat seal film which attaches embroidery to garments without the need for sewing

2 types available:

  • BsN type J
    • for industrial clothes
      washable to 95 degrees C
      dry cleanable
      melting point 170 degrees C
  • BsN type H
    • for household clothes
      washable to 40 degrees C
      dry cleanable
      melting point 135 degrees C

How to use thermofoil:

  1. Place thermofoil onto reverse side of embroidery design to preserve protective paper.
  2. Iron thermofoil onto pattern using any standard iron:
    • BsN type J: setting temperature - approx. 170 degrees C
      pressure period - 0.3 bar / 0.3 Kp cm approx. 5 seconds
    • BsN type H: setting temperature -approx. 135 degrees C
      pressure period - 0.3 bar / 0.3 Kp cm approx. 5 seconds

Do not apply too high a temperature or pressure when coating embroidery patterns. The thermofoil should be ‘tacked’ on and should not penetrate too deeply into underthread or carrier cloth - this will ensure that a sufficient amount of foil is left on the reverse side of embroidery pattern for fixing to garment.

  3. After coating, remove silicone paper and cut/punch out patterns.

Fixing patterns onto garment:

  • BsN type J:
    splitting temperature - approx. 170 degrees C
pressure approx. 1.4 bar / 1.4 Kp cm
    period approx. 15 seconds.
  • BsN type H:
    splitting temperature - approx. 135 degrees C
pressure approx. 1.4 bar / 1.4 Kp cm
    period approx. 20 - 35 seconds.
